The Naturalization Act of 1790 which was created in 1790 and said that only free white people of “good character” could be granted citizenship. The “good character” was shown by living in the United States for two years and a state for two years. Obviously, this left out many groups, including Native Americans, slaves, Asians, African Americans, women, and indentured servants.
